EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing - a structured, evidence-based approach for processing trauma and distressing memories, individually or alongside our other work together.

Overview

EMDR is a structured therapeutic approach originally developed for trauma, and now used more broadly for distressing memories and experiences that talking alone has not fully shifted. It uses guided eye movements (or other forms of bilateral stimulation) while you bring a specific memory to mind, helping the brain reprocess it so it carries less charge. It is not about erasing what happened - it is about changing how much power the memory still holds over you.

Is This You?

  • You have a specific memory or experience that still feels “stuck”
  • Talking therapy alone has not fully shifted something
  • You are processing a single distressing event, or a pattern of smaller ones
  • You want a structured, more time-bound approach to a specific issue
  • You are already working with me and think EMDR could help alongside that

What We'll Work On

  • Processing specific traumatic memories or experiences
  • Reducing the emotional intensity attached to distressing memories
  • Building resourcing and stability, before and after reprocessing work
  • Integrating EMDR alongside ongoing talking therapy, where helpful
EMDR sits alongside my core integrative and psychosexual training - I will always talk through with you whether it is the right fit before we begin.
